This project marks experience(s), moments and trajectories that tell a story of Black music, performance and embodied praxes. In tracing the histories of Black music and performance, three themes emerged as it relates to practices that support emotional health and wellbeing. Black people(s) have created and engaged in arts practices as expression, resistance, and freedom dreams. These expressions are amplified and uplifted in the following pages. What is represented here is not the only story of Black healing through music and performance. Rather, this is a story that has been revealed to me through stitching frayed histories and tracing genealogies within. There are many stories to tell and many experiences held within Black communities. This project is a sample of a wide and deep well of knowledge and experiencing.
